Figure Drawing Workshop

I'm getting pretty antsy before summer school starts and decided to attend a workshop with my friend Lloyd during the "break". The class was instructed Michael Buffington Jr., who is a instructor at the Academy. These drawings were all 10 minutes and were done with prismacolor pencil on newsprint. I really like the feel of the prismacolor versus using conte crayon or compressed charcoal and kinda wish I have used it before.

More Clothed Figure Drawings

Cleaned up my work space and came across these! The bottom two were done early on during the spring 10' semester. I'm guessing they were 10-15 minutes each. The top two were during a workshop that I attended after clothed figure drawing class.

Guacamole

Did this one the other day at home. I really liked how it came out and found it challenging because of how the meat of the avocados change once they are cut open. Total painting time, around 1 hour.

Tara says that avocados bleed... I on the other hand really doubt they have feelings.

I think i need a helmet...

These were both homework assignments for my oil painting class with Mark Elliot. Remember how I said I love how the time restraint of the in class paintings forces you to work fast with out overthinking... Well, that does not apply to these. I mean, I do like both of these alot and am proud of them, but there is something about each one that bugs me.

This one was my final for my oil painting class.

This was my first homework assignment.

Oil Paintings!

Sooooo... I was pretty excited about my oil painting class and was pretty happy with the outcome considering I have never used oil paints before in my life. All of these were done in the class and we had one class session to start and finish it. I love the time restraint because it really forces you to work fast without over thinking anything. Enjoy!

Effn RAGE!

This was the first assignment in Clothed Figure Drawing. The assignment was to do a character design.

I think I gots a thing for drawing characters drinking.

FACE!

Another assignment using the historical character Bonnie Parker.

I was kinda dissapointed because not one person addressed that she was doing the ROBOT.

This was my first try at showing expressions. Ok... My first attempt at doing a drawing that showed expressions. I think everyone knows that the first comment is kinda B.S.

No one uses the term "Gangs'ta" anymore...

These were homework assignments for Clothed figure drawing. The historical person who I chose was Bonnie Parker.

I tried something new and used rubbing alcohol along with a prisma color pencil on velum. I liked the method to the madness and would like to try it again when I draw some monsters!

Clothed figure Drawings

These were among the many, MANY drawings that were done in my clothed figure drawing class. All the drawings range anywhere from 5 min. to 20 min. This class was full to the rim with talent and was just amazing to see everyone's growth. Chris Canga was the teacher and also part of the AAU alumni. It was always inspiring and motivating to hear of how he was in the exact same position as we were, as students. I'm looking forward to taking intermediate Clothed figure Drawing in the fall!

Perspetive.... All up in you FACE!

These were all from my perspective class with Joko Budiono. He seriously was the kindest teacher that I have ever had and never ceased to amaze me with the knowledge he handed down to his students. Also,.... this class was the most difficult class I have had so far. It pretty much kicked my ass, but in a good way.

Told you that you would run into Frankenstein again! This was actually for my Golden Section/Sacred Geometry class, but it is using 3 point perspective. I did the composition using what I learned in my Golden Section/Sacred Geometry class.... Ok.. Basically, I used ALOT of black magic spells along with a large amount of coffee. And NO... that is not a bong in my hand. Its a BEAKER!

Robots and monsters need groceries too...man!

Whatcha think Aliens do after kicking ass all day long?!
All of these were from my intermediate figure drawing class. This class had the best vibe I have ever encountered from any of my classes at AAU.

All of these anatomy drawings were from, I think you might have guess, my Anatomy class with Valerie Winslow. I loved doing these little drawing. Something is very relaxing about doing hundreds of little lines to indicate muscle fiber. All the muscle anatomy drawing were done with micron pen on toned paper.

The last two were done with charcoal on toned paper.
Figure Modeling... This was another class that I had my first semester at the Academy. I actually really enjoyed this class. I never worked with clay before in my life, unless you count play-doh. Enjoy!

Blast From the Past

This is going to be pretty interesting since I have never posted anything on a blog, nor have I ever had a blog. BUT, I feel like this is a important thing to do for myself by documenting my semesters at the Academy of Art University and also to show fellow piers, friends, and who ever else that comes across, my progress. The following will be from my beginning at the Academy, January of 2009, till present. I'll be your guide through this journey, so if there are any questions or comments, feel free to ask, yell, or smack me around!

The following was the beginning.... Analysis of form!

I personally really this like Frankie! For those you have been invited over to Max's Pad, you probably have seen it in person. You will notice that I like Frankenstein quite a bit when you see a later posting. I feel like I just share a lot of similar traits with him I guess. Maybe it's the similar height, my way to mumble when talking, or maybe look of being constipated all the time. Not sure...
